LPIC-1 Exam Results

FS3 congratulates its CEO Federico Sevilla III, and Junior Consultant Alec Joseph Rivera, for passing the Linux Professional Institute 101 and 102 examinations, earning them both the LPIC-1 certification.

The UNDP-APDIP International Open Source Network (IOSN) ASEAN+3 Sub-Regional Node administered LPI examinations at the University of the Philippines Diliman on 10 Nov 2007. This lower-cost paper-based examination is part of the ongoing effort of IOSN ASEAN+3 to advocate FOSS and help advance Linux professionals in the region.

Team FS3’s LPIC-1 members are now preparing for the LPIC-2 certification, while the rest prepare for LPIC-1. The next hopeful schedule for LPI exams through IOSN ASEAN+3 is Feb 2008. Calls for examinees are usually posted on various free.net.ph and PLUG mailing lists.

SpiceHire Candidate Management System

SpiceHire is a candidate management and e-recruitment system built on top of the SugarCRM customer relationship management system. It was released to the public by Novare Technologies under the GNU GPL.

We’ve tested SpiceHire 1.0 against SugarCRM 4.5.1h and have encountered no major problems with it. We’re now able to offer SugarCRM OS 4.5.1h with SpiceHire GPL 1.0 as software as a service, and of course continue to provide consulting services to help you customize and get started with your CRM and CM/e-Recruitment system.

Please contact us for inquiries.

eAccelerator Implemented

To help boost web application performance, we’ve installed the eAccelerator PHP5 module. Basic tests have been done and things are working fine. Please contact us to report any anomalies.

From the eAccelerator website: eAccelerator is a free open-source PHP accelerator, optimizer, and dynamic content cache. It increases the performance of PHP scripts by caching them in their compiled state, so that the overhead of compiling is almost completely eliminated. It also optimizes scripts to speed up their execution. eAccelerator typically reduces server load and increases the speed of your PHP code by 1-10 times.

Server Migrated to Tri-Isys

The FS3 team has successfully migrated our Internet-based services from our previous hosting provider ServerBeach in the US, to our new provider Tri-Isys Internet in Manila.

This move significantly reduces the latency to our servers from most major ISPs in the Philippines, improving the user experience significantly. We also hope this will pave the way to our expanding our software as a service (SaaS) offering for our valued clients.

More details about our new hosting provider are available on our services page.

This activity similarly relocated all the Internet services we offer to the free.net.ph and PLUG communities.
